When I speak of the beginning and end of scripture, I am not saying that the Bible will be destroyed or no one will read it anymore. I am speaking about the words at the beginning and the end of the Bible. The Bible begins with Genesis 1:1, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." From this verse we know that God is the author of all existence. As author of all existence, He alone possesses all authority and power. The authority and power of God is not that of a figurehead put in place to serve the interest and will of another. His authority is supreme and at His own disposal.
How does the author of all existence use His authority and power? The answer is found in the ending of the Bible. Revelation 22:20, 21. "He who testifies to these things says, 'Surely I am coming quickly.' Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus! The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen." These verses speak about the culmination of God's redemptive work accomplished through Jesus Christ. "In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace" (Ephesians 1:7).
What an amazing God we serve! The author of all existence who possesses all authority and power has used His authority and power to redeem lost humanity. The verses I have quoted tell us of the beginning and the end of life as God created it and sustains it. I believe that all scripture should be view in the context of these verses. I am reminded of a verse that speaks of God's work in the life of individual believers in Philippians 1:6, "Being confident of this very thing, that He who begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ." What God began in Genesis 1:1, He will surely complete in Revelation 22:21.
